Quick and the dead rankings (2038 Week 4)

We have reached the quarter pole of the season and we are starting to see some stability in the power rankings as the top 8 ranked teams remain the same in a slightly different order while the Oak Island Treasure retain the #1 rank.

The Quick went 8-2 this week with the #1 OAK Island Treasure defeating the #10 San Antonio Rampage 38-16 and the #11 Menominee Timberjacks edging out the #9 Buffalo Chips 10-7. Theses results helped lift the #11 Timberjacks and #12 Albany Firebirds up to the Quick level while both the #9 Chips and #10 Rampage dropped down to the And tier.

This week featured no major upsets but the Dead went 4-6 this week with 3 of the wins coming versus a fellow Dead team and 1 win was the #26 Chicago Billy Goats beating the #20 Hawaii Black Sharks 18-12. All 4 Dead teams that won were resurrected from the Dead as the #31 Mississippi Mud, #29 Birmingham Thunderbolts, #28 Green Bay Bullfrogs and the #26 Billy Goats rose from the grave to 20th, 18th, 19th and 20th respectively.

Quick and the dead rankings (2038 Week 5)

The 5th week featured some major upsets but none more than the #19 Green Bay Bullfrogs knocking off the #1 undefeated Oak Island Treasure 27-6! The lose dropped the Treasure down to 10th almost pushing them out of the Quick while the win moved the Bullfrogs up to 11th, just one spot out of the Quick!

Two other upsets featured teams beating teams ranked 16 spots higher in the rankings. The #29 Colorado Cut Throat's beat the #13 San Antonio Rampage 13-3 which resulted in the Cut Throat's rising from the grave and moving up to 21st while the Rampage were severely wounded but not quite dead at 22nd. The other 16 spot upset was the 28th Mayfield Bakers squeaking by the #12 Buffalo Chips, 10-7. The Bakers dug themselves out of the grave and rose to 16th while the Chips dropped down to 19th.

The Quick went 7-3 this week including the big upset of the #1 Oak Island Treasure plus the 11th ranked Bratislava Mellotrons handling the 10th Menominee Timberjacks 17-10. The Mellotrons parlayed the win into a move into the Quick at 4th while the Timberjacks are no longer Quick and ranked 15th. The 3rd lose by a Quick team was the #9 Albany Firebirds getting trounced by the #6 Charleston Hammers 58-19. The Hammers remained 6th while the Firebirds are no longer Quick being moved down to 12th.

The And went a typical 6-6 with 3 of the loses coming to Quick teams but 2 of the loses came to Dead teams which cost 2 And teams their lives!

The Dead went a decent 4-6 including the 2 major upsets chronicled above which helped resurrect those 2 teams from the Dead and into the And tier.

The final rankings show we have a new #1 with the undefeated Great Falls Quicksilver taking the top spot as we are down to 4 undefeated teams in the #1 Quicksilver, #2 Dust Devils, #3 Monarchs and the #7 Stars. Quick and the dead rankings (2038 Week 6)

The week featured 2 games with both teams ranked in the top 11 of the rankings plus 3 upsets including 1 insane upset where a team ranked 21 spots lower than their opponent won!

The #1 Great Falls Quicksilver beat the #7 Hollywood Stars 17-0 in a divisional matchup between 2 undefeated teams. The Quicksilver remain the #1 seed while the Stars only dropped one spot to 8th.

The #9 Chesapeake Bay Crusaders destroyed the #11 Green Bay Bullfrogs 33-0. The shutout helped the Crusaders move up to 7th while the Bullfrogs weren't quick enough and dropped from 11th to 17th.

The upset of the week goes to the #31 Galanta Mallards who knocked off the #10 Oak Island Treasure 13-3. The Mallards win brought them back to life as they jumped a tier and moved up 9 spots to 22nd. The Treasure were ranked #1 after 4 weeks and 2 straight loses have dropped them right out of the Quick, down to 14th!

Another upset was the #26 Chicago Billy Goats who nudged past the #12 Albany Firebirds 17-10. The Billy Goats was another Dead team that regained life and moved to 18th while the Firebirds dropped 3 drops to 15th.

The third upset was a minor one where the #15 Menominee Timberjacks held off the #8 Duluth Timbers 9-6. The teams swapped tiers as the Timberjacks became Quick at #10 while the Timbers are no longer Quick enough at #11.

The Quick went 7-3 this week with 2 of the 3 teams that lost becoming no longer Quick enough moving down to And. The top 3 teams retained their ranking and the top 6 teams remained the same with a slight change in position.

The And went 5-7 this week with 2 teams moving up to Quick and 4 teams becoming Dead leaving 6 teams to remain And.

The Dead went 4-6 this week and the 4 teams that won all were resurrected from the Dead and moved up to the And tier including the Thunderbolts (24th to 16th), Billy Goats (26th to 18th), Black Sharks (25th to 20th) and Mallards (31st to 22nd). The St. Lawrence Muskies(0-5-1) reclaimed the "Deadest of the Dead" title with the Letterkenny Shamrocks (0-6) and the Tampa Bay Corsairs (0-6) in close proximity.

Shoutout to the Mississippi Mud who relocated from being the North Florida Lizards in the off-season. The Lizards spent the majority of last season as "The Deadest of the Dead". They began the season with a preseason ranking of 32nd and went on to lose their first 3 games where they were ranked 31st after 3 weeks. The Mud finally won in week 4 and were resurrected from the Dead and rose to a ranking of 22. They won again in week 5 and moved to 14th then won their 3rd straight in week 6 to even their record at 3-3 and finish the week ranked 12th! Week 7 finds the #12 Mississippi Mud hosting the #13 Tokyo Far East and a 4th straight win could possibly move the Mud into the realm of the Quick!!!!

Quick and the dead rankings (2038 Week 7)

Week 7 was an exciting week which featured 3 games between top 13 teams, 2 games among the bottom 6 teams plus 6 upsets including a Dead team knocking off a Quick team.

The game of the week was the #5 Chicken Wing Foghorn Leghorns beating the #4 Charleston Hammers 17-12. The win moved the Foghorn Leghorns up to 3rd while dropping the defending Champion Hammers to 8th.

The #1 Great Falls Quicksilver rolled over the #11 Duluth Timbers 37-7 and both teams remained in the same spot in the rankings.

A match between #13 Tokyo Far East and the #12 Mississippi Mud was viewed as a winner becoming Quick game and that's exactly what happened when the Far East won and moved up to 9th while the Mud lost and dropped down to 21st and ended their 3 game winning streak.

We had 6 upsets of various degrees but none more significant the the #28 New Orleans Voodoo beating the #8 Hollywood Stars by 10, 25-15. It propelled the Voodoo up from the Dead at 17th while knocking the Stars out of the Quick and down to 14th.

Another significant upset occurred when the #20 Hawaii Black Sharks beat the #2 Deadwood Dust Devils in a shootout, 39-33. The win pushed the Black Sharks up into the Quick at #10 while the Dust Devils dropped to 7th but remained Quick.

Other upsets included the #21 Colorodo Cut Throat's shutting out the #10 Menominee Timberjacks 10-0. The Cut Throat's rose to 13th while the Timberjacks dropped to 20th. The #31 Letterkenny Shamrocks upset the #18 Chicago Billy Goats 13-10 in a low scoring affair. The Shamrocks only moved up to 28th but the Billy Goats became Dead and fell to 29th.

Two other games featured Dead teams ranked 8 spots lower upsetting their And opponents. The #25 Omaha Storm blew out the #17 Green Bay Bullfrogs 32-6. The teams swapped tiers as the Storm were resurrected from the Dead up to 18th while the Bullfrogs died and were dissected down to 26th. The #24 Texas Butcherz won by a touchdown over the #16 Birmingham Thunderbolts 28-21 and rose from the grave to 15th while the Thunderbolts fizzled out and dropped Dead to 27th.

One more game of interest, dubbed the Deadbowl by the media featured the #30 Tampa Bay Corsairs and #32 St. Lawrence Muskies, both winless with the loser guaranteed to become "The Deadest of the Dead" and only remaining winless team. The game was quite entertaining and featured 4 lead changes before the Corsairs took a 22-20 lead late in the 3rd quarter and won going away 32-20. The win moved the Corsairs up to 25th while the Muskies remained 32nd and solidified themselves as "The Deadest of the Dead".

The Quick went 6-4 this week and had to New additions to the tier as 2 of the teams that lost became no longer Quick enough.

The And went 4-8 this week and sent 2 teams up into the Quick while 4 teams died.

The Dead went a respectful 6-4 this week including a win over a Quick team and had 4 teams resurrected up to the And tier.

On a personal note, I want to wish all of you a wonderful, safe and enjoyable holiday. Thanks for being a part of this league and I hope everyone enjoys these Quick and the Dead power rankings, no matter where you get ranked.

Quick and the dead rankings (2038 Week 8)

We have reached the Midway point of the season and the rankings have become more stable. Only 5 teams changed tiers but we did have a rare 2 tier move.

The game of the week featured the #2 Kansas City Monarchs winning big 30-10 over the #3 Chicken Wing Foghorn Leghorns. The win propelled the Monarchs into the top spot while the Foghorn Leghorns fell to 9th.

Another big game matched the #6 Blue Rock Heisenbergs against the #12 Oak Island Treasure. The Treasure had lost 3 in a row and this was their chance to reestablish themselves as a Quick team but the Heisenbergs put that to bed with a dominant 37-13 win. The Heisenbergs moved up a spot to 5th while the Treasure lost their 4th straight and fell to 15th.

There were only 2 upsets this week with the biggest the #22 Mayfield Bakers out lasting the #11 Duluth Timbers in overtime 22-19. The win helped the Bakers move up to 11th, just outside the Quick while the Timbers dropped down to 18th.

The only other upset based on ranking featured the #14 Hollywood Stars and the #10 Hawaii Black Sharks. The Stars had dropped 2 straight games but is considered a Quick team while the Black Sharks had ridden 2 straight wins to edge into the Quick despite being considered more of an And tier team. The Stars left no doubt they belonged in the Quick by blowing out the Black Sharks 36-10. The win put the Stars back in the Quick at 8th while the lose not only made the Black Sharks no longer Quick enough but it gave them a mortal blow which dropped them in the realm of the Dead at 24th for the rare 2 tier swing.

The Quick went 8-2 this week with 1 lose coming when #2 beat #3. The Quick welcomed back a familiar team while sending 1 team straight past the And into the Dead.

The And went a typical 6-6 while sending 1 team into the Quick and dropping 1 team into the Dead meaning 10 teams stayed put.

The Dead went 2-8 this week with both of the winning teams being resurrected from the Dead while welcoming 1 former And team plus 1 former Quick team into the final (?) embrace of the grave. Despite being 1-7, the Letterkenny Shamrocks took "The Deadest of the Dead " title away from the 0-7-1 St. Lawrence Muskies by 1 ranking point.

Halfway thru the season and we have close races in store for not only the top spot in the rankings (#1 and #2 are separated by 9 ranking points) but also for the infamous title of "The Deadest of the Dead (#32 and #31 are separated by 1 ranking point).

Quick and the dead rankings (2038 Week 9)

Week 9 was all about the Quick teams becoming entrenched in their tier as the And teams came up short in their opportunity to overtake them.

The Quick went 9-1 this week with the only lose coming when the #1 Kansas City Monarchs beat the #4 Chesapeake Bay Crusaders 21-10. The Monarchs remain the #1 ranked team extending their lead to 27 points over the 2nd ranked team. The Crusaders dropped to 10th but remained Quick as all 10 teams that entered Week 9 in the Quick tier, exited week 9 still there.

The And went a dismal 3-9 this week as they failed in 4 games to beat a Quick team plus had 2 major upsets against them from the Dead tier. 2 teams dropped down to the Dead.

The Dead went 5-5 including 2 major upsets plus 1 near collosal upset. 2 teams were resurrected from the Dead up to the And tier.

The #30 Atlanta Autobots shutout the #14 Menominee Timberjacks 13-0 which moved the Autobots up to 24th, 5 ranking points from being resurrected. The Timberjacks fell to 19th, just 9 ranking points away from death.

The #31 St. Lawrence Muskies upset the #12 Texas Butcherz 12-10. The Muskies only moved up 1 spot to 30th but gained 41 ranking points making them closer to being resurrected to the And tier at 22nd (21 points away) then dropping 1 rank to 31st (31 points away). The Butcherz fell to 17th in the rankings.

The #27 Tampa Bay Corsairs gave the #2 Great Falls Quicksilver quite a scare by coming just short in a 20-19 lose. Tampa Bay lost when a missed extra point allowed a fieldgoal to beat them.

The teams ranked 16th-30th are separated only by 32 rankings points. To put that in perspective, the #1 and #2 team are separated by 27 ranking points and #1 and #3 are separated by 34 ranking points.

Quick and the dead rankings (2038 Week 10)

We are 10 weeks into the season and while some teams have solidified their rankings, others keep fluctuating up and down tiers as 10 teams switched tiers this week.

The game of the week featured the #5 Deadwood Dust Devils knocking off the #3 Bratislava Mellotrons 24-16. The teams swapped rankings as the Dust Devils moved up to 3rd while the Mellotrons dropped down to 5th.

The #1 Kansas City Monarchs hosted the #12 Bullfrogs and sent a message to the league with a 78-3 domination. The Monarchs have firmly entrenched themselves at #1 with the win as they have held the spot for 3 straight weeks. The lose dropped the Bullfrogs back to 17th.

We had 2 major upsets this week where 2 Dead teams beat 2 Quick teams which helped to shake up the rankings. The #29 San Antonio Rampage beat the #9 Tokyo Far East 21-7. The win resurrected the Rampage up to 18th while the Far East are no longer Quick enough at 15th.

The #24 Atlanta Autobots beat the #10 Chesapeake Bay Crusaders 13-3 for the second major upset of the week. The Autobots were raised from the Dead with the win up to 19th while the Crusaders dropped from the ranks of the Quick, down to 13th.

The Quick went 7-3 this week with the 3 loses chronicled above. The top 8 teams remain the same with the order slightly adjusted as 2 new teams join the Quick at 9th and 10th. The Great Falls Quicksilver, Deadwood Dust Devils and the Charleston Hammers have remained in the Quick ranking all 10 weeks while the Kansas City Monarchs, Hollywood Stars and Chicken Wing Foghorn Leghorns have spent 9 of 10 weeks in the Quick tier. The Bratislava Mellotrons have spent 7 weeks and the Blue Rock Heisenbergs have spent 6 weeks in the Quick tier.

The And went a reasonable 6-6 this week sending 2 teams up to the Quick while burying 3 others into the Dead.

The Dead went a corpse-like 3-7 this week but the 3 teams that won did get resurrected from the Dead. The St. Lawrence Muskies lost to a fellow Dead team, the Omaha Storm and it helped them reclaim the title, "The Deadest of the Dead". The St. Lawrence Muskies, Letterkenny Shamrocks and Tampa Bay Corsairs have spent all 10 weeks ranked in the Dead tier. The Philadelphia Cheesesteaks have spent 9 of the 10 weeks ranked in the Dead. The St. Lawrence Muskies have been "The Deadest of the Dead" in 6 of the 10 weeks while the Letterkenny Shamrocks have held the title for 3 weeks with the Philadelphia Cheesesteaks having held it once. The Tampa Bay Corsairs are the best of the 4 worst teams since they have been ranked in the Dead tier every week but have never been "The Deadest of the Dead". In fact, the Corsairs have never been ranked lower then 30th which makes them the best of the four 1 win teams.

Quick and the dead rankings (2038 Week 11)

In a week 11 that featured 7 games where Quick teams played DEAD teams, the idea of upsets seemed remote. That was nonsense since we had 5 upsets and one of those Dead teams nearly pulled off a 6th.

The game of the week matched the #7 Hollywood Stars versus the #11 Buffalo Chips with the Stars winning 25-13 and moving up to 4th in the rankings. The lose dropped the Chips down to 16th.

Again game between potential playoff teams featured the #6 Chicken Wing Foghorn Leghorns playing the #13 Chesapeake Bay Crusaders with the Foghorn Leghorns winning 27-16. The win kept the Foghorn Leghorns ranked 6th and the Crusaders, despite a lose, moved up a spot to 12th.

The biggest of the 5 upsets was the #21 Omaha Storm knocking off the #10 Albany Firebirds 20-7 which rose the Storm up to 13th while the Firebirds returned to the And tier at 17th. The Firebirds have reached the Quick tier 3 times this season but in each case they lost the following week to drop back into the And tier.

Other upsets include the #25 Birmingham Thunderbolts beating the #14 Galanta Mallards 17-13, the #28 Hawaii Black Sharks beating the #18 San Antonio Rampage 17-10, the #29 Tampa Bay Corsairs shutting out the #17 Green Bay Bullfrogs 22-0 and the #22 Duluth Timbers edging out the #15 Tokyo Far East 22-17. The Thunderbolts, Black Sharks and the Corsairs all were resurrected from the Dead to 20th, 18th and 19th respectively. The Rampage, Bullfrogs and the Autobots all dropped Dead to 27th, 23rd and 28th respectively.

The #30 Philadelphia Cheesesteaks nearly upset the #8 Blue Rock Heisenbergs in a game they lead until 2 seconds remaining when the Heisenbergs connected on a game tying fieldgoal and sent the game into overtime. In overtime, the game lasted exactly one play when after winning the coin toss and electing to receive the ball first, RB Cody Bentley returned the kickoff 94 yards for a rare walkoff kick return for a touchdown. The close call dropped the Heisenbergs down to 8th while the Cheesesteaks remain ranked 30th.

The Quick went a dominate 9-1 this week with only the #10 Firebirds getting upset and dropping out of the Quick. The top 9 ranked teams remained yhe same with some minor shuffling with the top 3 team staying the same.

The And went a paltry 4-8 this week with 3 of the 4 wins coming versus fellow And teams. One team climbed into the Quick as the streaky Treasure return to the Quick after their 2nd straight win following a 5 game losing streak which followed a 4 game winning streak to start the season.

The Dead went 3-7 this week going 0-7 against Quick teams but 3-0 versus And teams where those 3 teams got resurrected from the Dead. The Letterkenny reclaimed the title of "The Deadest of the Dead" from the St. Lawrence Muskies by 2 ranking points. This is the Shamrocks 4th week at 32nd compared to the Muskies 6 weeks in that position.

Quick and the dead rankings (2038 Week 12)

We have reached the three quarter mark of the season and we have 2 undefeated teams left, 1 in each Conference plus 3 teams with just 1 win. The rankings point system has been discussed and explained but what the points represent should be explained.

125+ Title caliber team/13+ wins
90-124 Playoff Team/ 10+ wins
70-89 Playoff Bubble Team/8+ wins
30-69 Wildcard Longshot/6+ wins
0-29 Some wins/4+ wins
-1 or less Drafting Top 10/0-3 wins

The game of the week was the #4 Hollywood Stars beating the #3 Deadwood Dust Devils 23-16. The win propelled the Stars up to 3rd while the Dust Devils dropped to 7th.

The best of the rest featured the #1 Kansas City Monarchs shutting out and shutting down the #13 Omaha Storm 24-0 which helped the Monarchs remain at #1 while the Storm dropped just 2 spots to 15th. The #9 Mayfield Bakers dominated the #14 Duluth Timbers 38-9 which kept the Bakers ranked 9th while the Timbers dropped Dead down to 24th.

The #15 Tokyo Far East got past the upstart #16 Buffalo Chips 16-10 and helped the Far East to become Quick at 10th while the Chips dropped down to 19th.

We did have 2 upsets where the #29 Colorado Cut Throat's squeak past the #18 Hawaii Black Sharks 10-3. The teams swapped tiers as the Cut Throat's were resurrected from the Dead up to 18th while the Black Sharks were sent to the grave at 28th. The #22 Galanta Mallards shutout the #12 Chesapeake Bay Crusaders 24-0. The upset win allowed the Mallards to rise from the Dead, all the way up to 13th. The lose by the Crusaders only dropped them 2 spots to 14th.

The Quick went 9-1 for the 2nd straight week with the only lose coming in the game of the week which featured 2 Quick teams playing head to head. The Treasure did drop from 10th to 11th despite a win as the Far East moved into the Quick.

The And went 4-8 for the 2nd straight week but did sent 1 team into the Quick tier while 3 teams dropped Dead.

The Dead went 3-7 for the 2nd straight week and for the 2nd straight week the 3 winning teams were resurrected from the Dead. The Letterkenny Shamrocks retained the title of "The Deadest of the Dead" for the 5th week this season while the St. Lawrence Muskies sit at 31st, having held that title for 6 weeks this season.

Quick and the dead rankings (2038 Week 13)

The week featured 6 games where teams ranked in the top 16 played each other including 2 games with top ten opponents plus 5 upsets of various degrees.

The game of the week was the #7 Deadwood Dust Devils ending the #2 Great Falls Quicksilver undefeated season with a 19-12 win. The win propelled the Dust Devils up to #2 in the rankings while the Quicksilver dropped down to 5th.

The #10 Tokyo Far East completed the season sweep of the #9 Mayfield Bakers 13-10 to take control of the division and move up to 8th. The lose dropped the Bakers out of the Quick tier for the 1st time since week 9 as they drop to 13th.

The #11 Oak Island Treasure continued their streaky ways with a 34-6 drubbing over the #14 Chesapeake Bay Crusaders. The Treasure won their 4th game in a row for the 2nd time this season sandwiched between a 5 game losing streak and became Quick again moving up to 9th. The Crusaders lose dropped them down to 17th where they remain in the And tier for the 4th straight week.

The #1 Kansas City Monarchs are the last undefeated team after holding off the #12 Menominee Timberjacks 13-10. The win solidified the Monarchs as the undisputed #1 ranked team while the Timberjacks dropped 3 spots to 15th.

The biggest upset of the week was the #15 Omaha Storm knocking off the #4 Bratislava Mellotrons 27-17. The Storm moved up to 14th while the Mellotrons fell to 7th but remains Quick.

Another big upset saw the #16 Birmingham Thunderbolts edging by the #8 Blue Rock Heisenbergs 21-20. The win moved the Thunderbolts up 12th while the Heisenbergs dropped to 10th but still clinging to the Quick tier.

A Dead team upset an And team when the #27 New Orleans Voodoo won by double digits over the #18 Colorodo Cut Throat's 21-10. The Voodoo were resurrected from the Dead, moving up to 21st while the Cut Throat's jumped into that open grave and died down to 28th.

The reigning "Deadest of the Dead" Letterkenny Shamrocks upset the #20 Texas Butcherz 15-3. The Shamrocks 2nd win only moved them up to 30th but they are 42 rankings points ahead of the current "Deadest of the Dead team. The Butcherz have been a highly inconsistent team this season and this lose dropped them down to 27th where they have yo-yoed between the And & Dead tiers all season.

The Quick went a surprising 6-4 this week with 2 loses coming in head to head matchups between Quick teams and the other 2 loses coming versus And teams. Despite the 4 loses onlyb1 team dropped out of the Quick tier.

The And went a respectful 7-5 this week, winning 2 games versus Quick teams, 2 games versus fellow And teams and 3 games versus Dead teams. Only 1 team moved up to the Quick while 2 teams dropped Dead.

The Dead went 3-7 this week with 2 wins coming versus And teams and the other versus a fellow Dead team. 2 teams were resurrected from the Dead while the St. Lawrence Muskies regained the title of "The Deadest of the Dead" and are ahead of the other 1 win team by 35 rankings points.
