Quick and the dead rankings (2038 Week 14)

LAST UNDEFEATED FALLS AS TOP 3 TEAMS LOSE!!!!

Week 14 was a wild and entertaining week where the last undefeated team lost big and the top three ranked teams would lose. Along with those upsets, we had several other big upsets with teams ranked at least 10 spots lower then their opponent won.

The game of the week was the #10 Blue Rock Heisenbergs defeating the undefeated #1 Kansas City Monarchs 31-13. The game went into halftime 7-6 Heisenbergs and the Monarchs would take a 13-10 lead with 11:36 left in the 3rd quarter before the Heisenbergs would score 21 unanswered points to win going away. The Monarchs defense entered the game allowing no more than 13 points in any game and they averaged 7 points allowed per game for the season before the Heisenbergs laid 31 points on them. The win moved the Heisenbergs up to 6th while the Monarchs slipped down to 4th after spending 6 straight weeks at #1.

There was more then 1 game of the week as the #6 Chicken Wing Foghorn Leghorns knocked off the #2 Deadwood Dust Devils 26-10. The Foghorn Leghorns have the #2 scoring offense and have scored at least 26 points during their current 6 game winning steak and end up ranked 2nd with the win, just 1 ranking point out of 1st. The Dust Devils are in the midst of a 5 game stretch versus top 10 opponents and are currently 1-2 in that stretch including a week last week versus the new #1 team. The lose dropped the Dust Devils down to 7th with the last 2 games against the #5 Hammers and the division rival #3 Mellotrons.

The 3rd game of the week featured the #7 Bratislava Mellotrons shutting out the #3 Hollywood Stars 26-0. This lopsided win helped the Mellotrons move up to 3rd, just 1 ranking point out of 2nd and 2 ranking points out of 1st. The Stars are 3-2 versus top 10 teams and their final 2 games are against 2 more top 10 opponents. They play the #1 Quicksilver and #2 Foghorn Leghorns the next 2 weeks and the current lose drops them down to 8th in the power rankings.

The #5 Great Falls Quicksilver survived to win in overtime versus the #13 Mayfield Bakers 20-17. The win helped the Quicksilver climb into the top spot in the rankings just 1 point ahead of the #2 Foghorn Leghorns and 2 points ahead of the #3 Mellotrons. The Bakers are battling for a playoff spot but back to back loses to top 10 teams by 3 points has them in need of a strong finish. The lose kept them ranked 13th.

We had some big upsets this week, none more than the #31 Philadelphia Cheesesteaks edging out a win versus the #20 Albany Firebirds 12-10. The Cheesesteaks have struggled to score all season, scoring 17 or less in 12 of their 14 games. The Cheesesteaks managed just 12 points this week but it was enough to give them their 2nd win and they moved up to 27th. The Firebirds have 5 wins thus season, all against Dead teams but they lost this one and become Dead themselves as they drop to 25th.

Another upset was the #29 Hawaii Black Sharks beating the #18 Mississippi Mud 13-6. The Black Sharks have had a very erratic season where they have beaten the #7 Dust Devils, #17 Corsairs, #19 Rampage and #20 Voodoo but have also lost to the #22 Billy Goats, #25 Firebirds, #24 Autobots and #30 Cut Throat's. This win moves them back into the And tier at 18th. They have yo-yoed back and forth between And & Dead all season and even made a 1 week appearance in the Quick tier. The Mud lose dropped them back into the Dead at 26th but after a season where they finished 32nd as the North Florida Lizards, the move to Mississippi has shown signs of improvement and their 5 wins is positive step.

The #26 San Antonio Rampage upset the #16 Buffalo Chips 13-12. The Rampage was resurrected from the Dead up to 19th while the lose by the Chips dropped them to 21st.

Quick and the dead rankings (2038 Week 15)

With just 1 week remaining, we had pivotal games in week 15 that shook up the power rankings. 5 top ten teams lost in matchups versus teams ranked in the top 16. The teams in the bottom half of the rankings continue to battle for position as 4 teams were resurrected from the Dead and 4 teams died.

It's hard to pick just one game of the week as we had 6 key matchups which factored into playoff seeding. The #5 Charleston Hammers beat the #7 Deadwood Dust Devils 19-6. The Hammers have won 8 straight and this win versus a top 10 opponent helped them claim the top spot in the rankings. The Dust Devils are in the midst of a 5 game stretch versus top ten opponents and have lost 3 of the last 4 but they still remain ranked 7th.

Division rivals, the #1 Great Falls Quicksilver and #8 Hollywood Stars played an intense defensive battle where the Quicksilver eked out a 6-3 win. The Quicksilver have dominated the South division for 20 years but the last 5 seasons have seen the Hollywood Stars challenge them for the division crown and they actually won it for the 1st time last season. The Quicksilver reclaimed that crown this season with a sweep of the Stars but even with the win, they dropped from 1st to 2nd. The Stars may have lost but they still managed to move up 2 spots to 6th.

We had 3 teams outside the top ten defeat teams in the top ten this week. The #12 Birmingham Thunderbolts handed the #4 Kansas City Monarchs their 2nd straight lose 22-3. The Thunderbolts win propelled them into the top ten at #8 while the Monarchs continued to fall down to 5th.

The #14 Chesapeake Bay Crusaders beat the #10 Oak Island Treasure 20-3 which helped the Crusaders move up to 12th while the Treasure became no longer Quick enough, dropping all the way down to 15th.

A big upset this week was the #16 Menominee Timberjacks squeaking past the #6 Blue Rock Heisenbergs 12-10. The win moved the Timberjacks up to 14th while the Heisenbergs ha e lost 2 of the last 3 games and fell out of the Quick, down to 13th.

In a game with serious playoff implications, the #22 Chicago Billy Goats squeezed past the #15 Omaha Storm 9-7. The win helped the Billy Goats remain alive for a playoff spot and lifted them to 17th while the lose for the Storm dropped them to 19th.

The biggest upset of the week was the #30 Colorodo Cut Throat's beating the #18 Hawaii Black Sharks 23-20. The Cut Throat's win resurrected them from the Dead up to 23rd while the Black Sharks jumped right into the open grave down to 26th.

The St. Lawrence Muskies look to have locked up "The Deadest of the Dead" title this season but week 16 sees them match up against the #30 Philadelphia Cheesesteaks. The last time these 2 teams met in week 5, it ended in a 10-10 tie.

Quick and the dead rankings (2038 Week 16 Final)

The regular season for the 21st season of the Quick and the Dead League has finished and we had several teams battling to become the Quickest team and earn the #1 ranking. When the numbers were tallied and the smoke clear, the Bratislava Mellotrons finished as the Quickest team in the league. They went 13-3 for the season and despite not having the best record in the league, they finished strong, winning 3 straight including 2 wins versus top 10 teams.

On the other end of the spectrum, the St. Lawrence Muskies finished 1-14-1 and with a week 16 shutout lose to the #30 Philadelphia Cheesesteaks 30-0, they were crowned "The Deadest of the Dead". They left little doubt having a rankings score of -122 points, 86 points lower than the next worse team. They finished 1-4-1 versus fellow Dead teams and their only win came versus the #21 Texas Butcherz in week 9. In that game, Texas trailed 9-7 at the 2 minute warning but had 3rd and 2 from the Muskies 3 yard line before this bizarre play.

https://fantasy-league.myfootballnow.com/watch/6188#1075780

After that bizarre 10 yard lose, the Butcherz still kicked a fieldgoal to take the lead 10-9 with 1:56 remaining. The Muskies took over from their 25 yard line and hit on 4 straight short passes before they were aided by a brutal facemask penalty which put them in fieldgoal range and the 12-10 win as time expired.

14 teams make the playoffs and the rankings finished with all the playoffs teams being ranked in the top 16. The #8 Galanta Mallards missed the playoffs but finished strong at 9-6-1 with 5 straight wins including 2 wins versus playoff teams. The #14 Oak Island Treasure also missed the playoffs at 9-7 in a streaky season where they started 4-0, lost the next 5 straight before righting the ship with 5 straight wins then finally dropping their last 2 games, both versus playoff teams.

This ended up being a great season with the top 16 teams being 8-8 or better and the bottom 16 finishing under .500. I can see at least 8-9 teams with a legimate shot to win it all and the National Conference is loaded with great teams. Thanks to all the owners for another fun season, good luck to all the playoff owners and for those who didn't make the playoffs, I hope you have a great off-season.

I truly hope everyone returns for the 22nd season of the Quick and the Dead and these unique and entertaining (?) power rankings!!!

Quick and the dead rankings (2039 Week 1)

The season begins and the preseason rankings which are all speculation, meets reality. Some teams lived up to expectations while others decided to ignore the past and made a name for themselves.

The game of the week featured the #1 defending Champ Charleston Hammers beating the #6 Hollywood Stars 20-17 in overtime. The close game moved the Hammers down to 3rd while the Stars fell all the way down to 17th.

The Saint Lawrence Muskies entered the season ranked 32nd as "The Deadest of the Dead" and promptly beat the #17 Tampa Bay Corsairs to end all that nonsense. The win resurrected the Muskies up to 15th while dropping the Corsairs to 27th.

While the preseason rankings were proved wrong in many cases in week 1, it was also proven right in many cases too.

The Quick went 8-2 this week and both loses became no longer Quick enough, falling to 17th & 18th.

The And went a subpar 4-8 this week sending 2 teams up into the Quick and 4 team were killed and became DEAD.

The Dead were restless going 4-6 this week as those 4 winning teams Rose from the grave to move as high as 12th, 13th, 15th & 16th.

The Duluth Timbers fell to 32nd with their lose and dubbed the new "Deadest of the Dead".

Highest I've ever been, by far, in a CJ power rankings!

And probably the highest I'll be in ages.

Pity that the team I created, Tampa Bay Corsairs, went down. But I'm sure they'll go up!

Quick and the dead rankings (2039 Week 2)

We are 2 weeks into a new season and the rankings are in Flux as 16 teams switched tiers. We had 4 major upsets including 2 DEAD teams upsetting 2 QUICK teams.

The game of the week featured the #5 Kansas City Monarchs beating the #9 Bratislava Mellotrons 24-18 which shot the Monarchs into #1 while the Mellotrons fell to 14th.

We had 4 big upsets but none bigger then the #31 Mississippi Mud squeaking past the #4 Menominee Timberjacks 7-6. The Mud rose to 18th while the Timberjacks fell to 15th. The teams were separated by 27 spots before the Mud rose 13 and the Mellotrons dropped 11 which places them 3 spots apart.

The 2nd biggest upset was the #24 Buffalo Chips outlasting the #10 Texas Butcherz 6-3 in overtime. The Chips rose to 17th will the Butcherz fell to 12th.

The 3rd biggest upset (sort of) was the 17th ranked Hollywood Stars beating division rival #2 Great Falls Quicksilver 20-16. This result wasn't as shocking since these 2 teams have been battling each other for division supremacy for seasons. The Stars rose into the Quick at 10 while the Quicksilver are no longer Quick enough at 13th.

The Quick went 6-4 this week with 4 teams falling and no longer Quick enough.

The And went 6-6 this week sending 4 teams up to become Quick and 4 teams down to become Dead meaning only 4 teams enter the week And and remained And teams.

The Dead went 4-6 sending 4 teams up to be resurrected from the Dead. The Duluth Timbers remain "The Deadest of the Dead "
