Quick and the dead rankings (2037 Week 4)

It's the quarter pole and we have a new #1 team as the Hammers jump the Dust Devils to claim the top spot.

It was an upset weekend as 3 teams ranked dead (#29, #27, #26) upset teams ranked in higher tiers (#17, #4, #12) listed respectively.

In fact, the DEAD finished 5-5 in week 4 while those ranked AND went 4-8 and the Quick went 7-3. This led to 4 DEAD teams being resurrected.

The only matchup of top ten teams saw the Duluth Timbers defeat the Kansas City Monarchs in a controversial game where the Timbers used questionable defensive formations to sack the Monarchs repeatedly. The Timbers have been warned by the commissioner to cease and desist these methods. Time will tell if further sanctions await.

The Great Falls Quicksilver, a staple in the Quick tier are no longer Quick after back to back loses. Its the first time in the 20 year history of the francise that the Quicksilver lost back to back games. You have to go back to 2019, 19 seasons ago, to find the only time the Quicksilver didn't win 2 games in a row! In 2019, they played New Orleans to a tie and lost in week 9 to Omaha Storm.

After 9 straight weeks, dating back to last season, the North Florida Lizards are no longer the Deadest of the Dead. The Lizards didn't win but the Philadelphia Cheesesteaks have lost their 1st 4 games with a combined score of 150-23 to take the Lizards place as The Deadest of Dead!!!

Quick and the dead rankings (2037 Week 5)

We had 2 major upsets this week as the #19 Bulldogs knocked off the #8 Foghorn Leghorns and incredibly the #30 Muskies won a 1 point decision over the #2 Dust Devils. It cost the Foghorn Leghorns their Quick ranking and dropped the Dust Devils to #9.

The teams in different tiers played close to expectations for the most part as Quick teams went 7-3, Dead teams went 3-7 while the And teams went 6-6.

The major surprise in the rankings was the Atlanta Autobots who rode a 66-0 decapitation of the Lizards to a 2 tier jump from #23 DEAD to #10 Quick!

Speaking of the Lizards, that 66-0 destruction helped them reclaim a familiar grave as Deadest of the Dead.

What's most interesting is only 4 teams have a negative score in the rankings, they are the 4 teams that are 0-5. How the scoring works is that as the season progresses, playoff caliber teams score at or near 100 or more while the lowest ranked teams score below 0. We only have 7 teams over 100 with the 4 teams under 0, that is the fewest negative score teams this late in the season since 2034.

Only 4 dead negative score

Quick and the dead rankings (2037 Week 6)

We had two games this week featuring two top ten teams. The #1 Hammers played a close game versus the #8 Quicksilver for three quarters until they exploded for 25 4th quarter points to solidify their ranking of #1.

The #4 Timbers had a 16-6 lead over the #7 Crusaders and missed a chip shot fieldgoal with 5:59 remaining in the game. It seemed meaningless at the time but the Crusaders scored a touchdown on a quick 3 play 78 yard drive, forced a punt and then hit a 51 yard fieldgoal as time expired to force overtime. The Crusaders forced the Timbers to punt in overtime and looked to be driving for the winning score when Crusaders QB James Cardoso threw an untimely interception from the Timbers 36 and returned to the Crusaders 29 yard line. This set up Timbers K  William Swift for redemption with a 34 yard fieldgoal.

Week 6 featured 2 major upsets including the #27 Rampage beating the #14 Crocodiles 23-9 and the biggest upset when the #24 Bakers knocked off the #2 Chips 13-10 in overtime. The Buffalo Chips lose dropped them out of the Quick down to 12th while the Mayfield Bakers became the 3rd team this season to make the 2 tier jump from The Dead to The Quick moving up to 10th.

The Quick went 7-3 this week with 2 of those loses coming against fellow Quick teams.

The And went a typical 6-6 while The Dead went 3-7 with 1 of those wins coming versus a fellow Dead team.

Once again, the North Floida Lizards remain the Deadest of the Dead with a 41-0 drubbing by the Green Bay Bullfrogs. Just had Dead the Lizards are is the fact the Bullfrogs actually dropped in the rankings from 12th to 18th!!!

Quick and the dead rankings (2037 Week 7)

Once again, we have a new #1 as the previous ranked #3 Duluth Timbers destroyed the #10 Mayfield Bakers 36-0 in a week where the top two ranked teams played the bottom two ranked teams. The #1 Hammers beat the #31 Far East 33-6 while the #2 Heisenbergs beat the #32 Lizards 19-6.

Strength of opponent hurt the top two teams in the rankings while on the other end in helped the previously ranked #32 Lizards claw up over our new Deadest of the Dead, the Philadelphia Cheesesteaks. The new #32 Cheesesteaks find themselves buried the deepest thanks to a 22-13 lose to another Dead team, the #29 Far East!!

The biggest upset of the week was the #21 ranked Chicago Billy Goats beating the #9 ranked Foghorn Leghorns!

The Quick went 7-3 this week with loses to teams ranked #3, #11 and the before mentioned #21.

The And went their normal 6-6 this week while the Dead went 3-7 with the 3 wins coming versus fellow Dead teams.

In other news, the Great Falls Quicksilver fell to 3-4 for the season and are under .500 for the first time in Framcise History. The perennial contenders find themselves in unfamiliar territory, 3 games behind the Hollywood Stars which seriously jeopardizes their 19 season streak of winning the NC South division and making the playoffs. The rest of the league will feel no pity for the Quicksilver and Head Coach Arthur Valley had this to say about being 3-4:

"In this league, we have been the hammer for so long that it's really an adjustment to be the nail! If we don't turn this around Quick then we are gonna learn what it feels to be Dead!"

Quick and the dead rankings (2037 Week 8)

We are halfway thru the regular season and the only remaining undefeated team, the Charleston Hammers reclaim the top spot with a 31-21 win over the #14 ranked Foghorn Leghorns!

This week saw a Zombie Apocalypse as the Dead went 6-4 as they feasted on And ranked teams and 4 Dead teams rose from the grave.

The week featured 3 big upsets!!! The #29 Tokyo Far East slashed the #18 Mayfield Bakers 13-9. The #26 Seattle Dragons stabbed the #17 Tuscon Outlaws 16-9 and the #23 Menominee Timberjacks knocked off the #12 Chicago Billy Goats 14-0. The 3 upsets resulted in the Bakers and the Outlaws being buried while the Billy Goats are on life support.

The Quick went 7-3 this week with all 3 loses coming in head to head matchups versus top ten teams. The #1 Duluth Timbers beat the #6 Blue Rock Heisenbergs 23-13, the #3 Hollywood Stars destroyed the #9 Kansas City Monarchs 33-7 and the #8 Oak Island Treasure shutout the #10 Texas Butcherz.

Quick and the dead rankings (2037 Week 9)

Before we get to the rankings, the biggest news is that new ownership has been found for the last 6 teams needing an owner. The commissioner actively sent out personal invites to a hand selected few and in a feverish day of talks, all 6 teams were bought for undisclosed amounts. The Commissioner wants to thank all the new owners publicly and hopes all the owners in the league will extend that welcome!!

The Charleston Hammers remain undefeated and the top ranked team while we had 2 matchups this week between 2 top ten teams. The #6 Crusaders beat the #7 Treasure 38-13 moving the Crusaders up to #5 while the Treasure dropped out of the Quick, down to 13th. The #5 Dust Devils knocked off the #8 Heisenbergs 20-14 moving the Dust Devils up to #2 while the Heisenbergs remained at #8.

We had 2 upsets this week with the #21 Billy Goats surprised the #9 Bullfrogs 23-17. The win jumped the Billy Goats up to 14th while the lose dropped the Bullfrogs out of the Quick, down to 16th. The #28 Far East shocked the #15 Chips 30-24 which only moved the Far East up to 25th but dropped the Chips down to 20th.

The Quick went 7-3 this week including 2 loses to fellow top ten teams and the upset of the #21 Billy Goats knocking off the #9 Bullfrogs.

The And went 7-5 this week which led to 2 teams jumping up to Quick and 1 team digging a grave and becoming Dead.

The Dead remained quit this week going 2-8 with 1 win coming against another Dead team. The #24 Outlaws bludgeoned the corpse of the #26 Black Sharks 26-13 which helped them crawl their way out of the grave and move up to 17th.

The #32 Lizards lost again, this time to the #22 Rampage, 30-12 to remain winless and they solidified their standing as "The Deadest of the Dead". The Lizards did get some hope in the form of new ownership when the De Balla family bought the francise.

I was not intending to take over an 0-7 team and win my first 2 games. Top draft pick looks out of reach at this rate but glad the Far East are on the up

Quick and the dead rankings (2037 Week 10)

This week only saw 4 teams switch tiers as the rankings start to solidify as we enter the stretch run to the playoffs. The Charleston Hammers remain the top seed with a perfect record but all eyes will be on the week 11 matchup as the #1 Hammers host the #4 Dust Devils!!

Despite little movement in the rankings, week 10 did feature a major upset as the very dead #28 Hawaii Black Sharks shocked the #3 Hollywood Stars 28-24. The Stars dropped to 7th while the Black Sharks were ressurected up to a 17 ranking.

The Marquee matchup this week featured the #4 Birmingham Thunderbolts dominating the #5 Chesapeake Bay Crusaders 34-10 which catapulted the Thunderbolts to the number 2 ranking while the Crusaders fell down to 8th.

The Quick went a robust 8-2 with the two loses covered above in the breakdown.

The And went 5-7 which is fairly typical for this group with 4 of the loses to Quick teams and the other 3 loses were to fellow And teams.

The Dead went 3-7 with 2 of those wins coming from feasting on fellow Dead corpses plus the major upset of the week!

The North Florida Lizards remain winless and have the label of "Deadest of the Dead " but the Philadelphia Cheesesteaks at 1-9 have been challenging them all season for that position. The two teams are separated by a single ranking point and the sole victory between them is the difference.

Quick and the dead rankings (2037 Week 11)

The undefeated Charleston Hammers really solidified their top ranking when they put the hammer down on the #4 Deadwood Dust Devils 30-0.

The week only featured one significant upset when the #31 Philly Cheesesteaks shocked the #18 Albany Firebirds 14-10 for just their 2nd win of the season. A week removed from challenging the Lizards for the Deadest of the Dead title, the Cheesesteaks showed some life but remain Dead as they only move up to 28th.

We had our 2nd tie of the season and for those who hate ties, it helped the #7 Hollywood Stars move up to 5th and the #15 Oak Island Treasure move up to 12th which goes to show that a tie is better than a lose anyway!

The Quick went 8-1-1 this week with the lose coming against another Quick team and the tie was to an And team.

The And had a horrible week going a lousy 2-9-1 with both wins coming versus fellow teams ranked in the And tier.

The Dead were very animated this week going 5-5 as 3 Dead teams feasted on fellow Dead teams plus they added 2 wins versus And teams.

Speaking of solidifying their ranking, the North Florida Lizards helped cement their stature as Deadest of the Dead with a 33-0 shalacking by fellow Dead team, the 24th ranked Canberra Crocodiles who used the homicide to ressurect themselves up to 18th.

THE QUICK

1. Charleston Hammers 185 (1)
2. Birmingham Thunderbolts 159 (2)
3. Duluth Timbers 139 (3)
4. Blue Rock Heisenbergs 127 (5)

Quick and the dead rankings (2037 Week 12)

This week featured 3 games with top 11 teams playing each other and in each case, the team ranked lower won. The #4 Blue Rock Heisenbergs beat the #2 Birmingham Thunderbolts 27-20 moving the Heisenbergs up to 2nd while dropping the Thunderbolts down to 5th.

The #8 Kansas City Monarchs beat the #6 Chesapeake Bay Crusaders 24-15 moving the Monarchs up to 7th while dropping the Crusaders down to 10th.

The #11 Great Falls Quicksilver handled the #9 Chicken Wing Foghorn Leghorns 36-13 and became Quick again at 8th while the Foghorn Leghorns dropped out of the Quick to 13th.

The upset of the week went to the #30 Omaha Storm who destroyed the #15 San Antonio Rampage 29-6. The Storm stormed up to #19 whole the Rampage dropped to 27th. After the game, the owner of the San Antonio Rampage, Steven "Shock" Collar was forcibly removed as owner of the francise by the Commissioner on charges of tampering. The team started TE Chad Mullen at quarterback for 3 straight games despite having 8 year starter QB Joseph Matthews healthy and available. Mullen went a ridiculous 1/71 passing for 17 yards and 9 INTs in those 3 games and the league had issued warnings to owner Shock Collar leading into this week's games to cease and desist this current situation and start one of the 2 QBs on the roster. After the game, the announcement was made that the Rampage were under temporary league ownership pending new ownership approval. Steven "Shock" Collar hasn't been available for comment and hasn't responded to the league, Commissioner or reporters. Head Coach Francis Connolly stated he was given a directive by ownership to play TE Mullen at quarterback or be removed and was opposed to the move.

The Quick went 7-3 this week with all 3 loses coming to #4, #8 and #11 as described above.

The And bounced back this week to go 7-5 including 1 win versus a quick team, 2 wins versus fellow And teams and hacking on the corpses of 4 Dead teams.

The Dead were mostly silent this week going 2-8 with 1 win versus a fellow Dead team and the other win to an And team.

The North Florida Lizards remain winless and "The Deadest of the Dead" with a 28-9 whipping at the hands of the 20th ranked Timberjacks. The Lizards have held that title for 10 of the 12 weeks this season.
