WEEK 13
AMERICAN CONFERENCE
Only the Monarchs have clinched their division and none of the 6 seeds are locked with 9 teams battling for 6 spots.
4 of the 6 playoffs teams have been decided with 2 teams fighting for the 6th seed where the Outlaws need to win out to have a chance. 4 teams are battling for the North as nobody has stepped up to own it yet.
We have reached the playoffs and clearly it's the best versus the best as Wildcard Weekend so just that...Wild! With 2 home teams and 2 road teams each winning with scores separated by 1, 2, 4 & 9 points.....the competition was close and fierce with any of the losing teams just a play or 2 away from victory!
AMERICAN CONFERENCE
6. Birmingham Thunderbolts 7 (9th playoffs) @ 3. Blue Rock Heisenbergs 16 (15th playoffs)
This game had the largest point differential of the weekend and the score was 13-7 right up to 2 minutes remaining in the game. This should give some insight to just how close all four games were on Wildcard Weekend. The game was a defensive battle with the Heisenbergs doing just enough to win. The longest play from scrimmage all game was a 39 yard TD pass which gave the Heisenbergs a 7-0 lead which they never relinquished.
In the closest game of the weekend and biggest heartbreaking lose to boot... these two teams battled all game with 3 lead changes and the potential game tying touchdown was followed by a missed extra point with 2:05 left in the game to have the Timberjacks fall 1 point short of a potential overtime. The Bakers move on but the Timberjacks proved they can play the big boys and should be a force in the future as the francise made only their 2nd playoff appearance
NATIONAL CONFERENCE
6. Hawaii Black Sharks 22 (7th playoffs) @ 3. Deadwood Dust Devils 24 (11th playoffs)
The Black Sharks scored first in this one before the Dust Devils ran off 3 straight touchdowns to take an early 21-3 lead. What looked like a runaway win was answered by the Black Sharks and by halftime the score was 21-13. The Black Sharks defense stepped up in the 2nd half and they outscored the Dust Devils in the 2nd half. The score was 24-19 Dust Devils with 4:16 remaining in the game when a costly interception by the Dust Devils gave the ball 1st and 10 on the Dust Devils 12 yard line. The Black Sharks were primed for a go ahead touchdown but the Dust Devils defense stood tall and forced a fieldgoal making the score 24-22. The Dust Devils took over with 3:19 remaining and converted 2 1st downs to run out the clock.
This game was the shootout of the week featuring over 900 yards of total offense and 7 lead changes. The ending was epic as the Foghorn Leghorns took the lead with 1:03 left in the game on a 55 yard TD pass 34-31. The Stars got the ball back but an interception with 0:50 left seemed to lock up the victory for the Foghorn Leghorns. With a 1st and 10 from the Stars 44 with 0:46 remaining seemed insurmountable but 3 runs followed by 3 timeouts forced the Foghorn Leghorns to punt with 0:34 left in the game. The Stars took over with 1st and 10 from their 20 with 0:27 left and they completed a quick 5 yard pass before with the clock running, with no timeouts, they executed a 75 yard TD pass as time expired to win in a walkoff and the play of the weekend.
This is a matchup between the two #1 seeds in both conferences.
AMERICAN CONFERENCE CHAMPS
The Duluth Timbers
This is their 1st Title game in their 19 year history. Owner Ioanblood took over the team in 2028 after 10 seasons of sporadic ownership and 3 division titles. He spent the first 4 seasons as owner rebuilding the roster, where they missed the playoffs but in season 4, he showed improvement finishing 8-8 in 2031. Starting in 2032, he made the playoffs every season with win totals of 12, 12 & 11 which earned them Wildcard spots before this season where he went 14-2, won the division and secured the top seed in the conference.
The Timbers are 8-7 Alltime in the postseason and 6-4 under owner Ioanblood.
They finished 8th overall in total offense and 3rd overall in total defense. On offense they rank 6th in passing and 11th in rushing. On defense they rank 3rd in passing and 6th in rushing. They led the league in sacks and have a +2 turnover margin.
NATIONAL CONFERENCE CHAMPIONS
Great Falls Quicksilver
The team has always been owned by Cjfred68 and they are making their 19th straight appearance in the playoffs. They have won their division for 19 straight seasons and have been a perennial title contender since the League started.
The Quicksilver are 46-9 Alltime in the postseason with 16 NFC Conference Championships are 9 League Championships. That works out to a 9-7 record in the Title game but after winning 6 of the first 7 League Championships in league history and 8 of the first 10, the team has struggled to bring home the Title. The last 8 seasons have seen them go 1-5 in the big game.
They finished 2nd overall in total offense and 1st overall in total defense. On offense, they rank 3rd in passing and 5th in rushing. On defense, they rank 5th in passing and 1st in rushing. They ranked 2nd in sacks and have a +7 turnover margin.
CONCLUSION
The American Conference has won 5 of the last 7 Titles so will the Timbers continue that trend or will the Quicksilver finally get Title #10 after starting 8-2 in the Championship game before losing 5 of their last 6 trips.
