Roster only is way too far in the other direction with games that are boring to watch.
Teams & owners that consistently win use only plays with the best averages, which narrows it down to 6 plays on defense and 15 on offense, if that. That is also much farther away from being a simulation to RL pro football. We dont have things like motion, audibles, and shifts on offense, along with shifts on defense. We cant use the long pass plays because the defenses used will not allow them, which is the reason for play diversity and use. The Elite League is a play diversity league and has demonstrated that full play selection and play use limitation works well, but not to the extent that it could be. To further the diversity, you need to also include the personnell and secondary coverages to be included in the active play selection. The Ai coaches have tendencies to overuse the GL offense for one, like on first & 10. It is also overused on defense. We compensate by zeroing out the GL personnel and use the GL by rule.
This is so much BS. Especially on defense. Most NFL teams sit in base defense and only vary their back end safeties 80% of the time or more. It's only select teams that blitz more than 20% of the time. In MFN, there only a few base defenses that work consistently so that's why they get called.
Its not BS seth, but agree that base defenses are used the most, but with a lot of variations.
Here is the overview from google search on NFL defensive plays.......
"NFL defensive plays vary greatly, with teams using many "base" formations and coverage schemes like 4-3, 3-4, Nickel, and Dime, along with constant pre-snap adjustments and audibles. Defenses adapt their play calls and formations based on the offensive personnel, down-and-distance, and a specific game plan to counter the opposing offense, leading to a highly fluid and context-dependent approach to calling plays."
I have a league (Elite) that is comprised of MFN players who prefer variability and variety in the play selection (full 40/30 active) and maximum use of a single play. On defense, you could say that a "play" was also a "variation", with a base personnel/formation, like the 43 Under or the Dime Flat, but play difference in coverage, blitz/no blitz. etc. I would suggest that its a matter of preference, and hopefull that there will be a control, same as roster, salary, and other coach controls, that will automatically switch a play if it gets to a max use per game level, which could be adjusted by league admin, same as injury rate level. Tules will circumvent the Ai coach play selection, along with gameplan for type of play & personnel.
Comes down to whether or not you have a preference for the game to be based on a few defensive play calls used by those who consistently win 13-16 games per season, and the 12-15 best offensive plays. i will play it that way as necessary to be competitive, but prefer not to. Would rather see more plays that have a chance to produce good results and variety in the game viewing.
